Before We Commit: Protecting clarity before goals, plans, and expectations take over

Before We Commit:
Protecting Clarity Before Goals, Plans, and Expectations take over.

The start of the year fills up quickly.

Goals get set. Calendars fill. Meetings, initiatives, and expectations begin stacking up — often before we’ve had a chance to decide what truly deserves our time and energy.

Many leaders move from reflection straight into commitment.

This session is an invitation to pause before that happens.

Before We Commit is not about planning, goal-setting, or fixing anything.
It’s a reflective space for nonprofit leaders who want to enter 2026 with clarity and intention — before urgency and other people’s expectations take over.

This session is for leaders who want to:

  • pause before committing to another full year of obligations

  • notice how time and urgency begin making decisions for us

  • reflect on where boundaries may already be slipping

  • understand why clarity often fades so quickly in January

  • choose discernment over reaction at the start of the year

There’s nothing to prepare and nothing you need to decide.

Just space to notice what’s real — and to consider how you want to show up before the year fully accelerates.

What this session is (and isn’t)

This session is:

  • reflective, not prescriptive

  • grounded, not rushed

  • conversational, not instructional

  • spacious, not performative

This session is not:

  • a planning workshop

  • a productivity session

  • a goal-setting exercise

  • a sales presentation

You won’t be asked to share unless you want to.
You won’t be pushed toward action or outcomes.

Why this matters now?

January has a way of deciding things for us.

Once commitments are made — meetings scheduled, priorities agreed to, expectations set — it becomes much harder to reclaim clarity or establish boundaries.

This session creates space before that momentum takes hold.

Not to delay leadership — but to ground it.

A note from Tom

I’m hosting this session because I see how often thoughtful leaders lose clarity not from lack of insight — but from lack of space.

Whether or not this leads anywhere else, my hope is that it helps you start the year with steadiness, perspective, and choice.
